Basement Renovation in Guelph
CHART was hired to design a complete basement renovation for this home on Amsterdam Crescent in Guelph, Ontario. The overall goal for completing the basement was to add a bedroom and a bathroom for their son as they had a new baby on the way. The final basement design included a bedroom, bathroom, rec room, homework area, playing area under the staircase and a fitness room. Here are some of the things CHART did on this project:
- As per the Ontario Building Code, CHART was required to dig out a new egress window.
- CHART was also serviced to determine the moisture issues in the basement as there was a thermal break in the current building envelope. It was determined that the existing beam pocket was exposed to the exterior and the hot moist air from outdoor was condensing on the inside of the vapour barrier during warm weather. The issue was rectified with 2 pounds sprayed polyurethane foam insulation.
The family now loves their finished basement and is able to enjoy it. Whether it's movie nights with the entire family or a quieter night where the kids are studying, door crafts are made, or someone is working out, the family can now make the best use of their basement.
